Art
In Reception we have been looking at "Starry Night" by Vincent Van Gogh. The children have been learning to use black and white paint to make their colors lighter and darker.
Music
On Thursday, Year 5 had the wonderful opportunity to see the Chicago Symphony Orchestra performing! Students were able to see professional musicians in action and experience amazing live music.
Science
This week the Year 6 children had their second visit from Lincoln Park Zoo. During their visit the children identified urban wildlife that visited their schoolyard. They viewed photos collected from the camera trap on their school grounds, as well as animal tracks collected from track plates. The children then considered the Protect, Restore, Observe steps that could help them interact with the urban wildlife species. Finally they prepared a skit to teach younger students how to interact with urban wildlife, which showed both appropriate and inappropriate interactions, and performed it for the Year 3 students. The children are really looking forward to their visit to Lincoln Park Zoo in a few weeks where they will further learn about animal adaptations!
Language
In Year 1 French we have been revising breakfast food vocabulary, using a song to teach us higher level language and sentences. Here, Eloise and Alex talk about the food they dislike and explain why! In Reception, Abhi leads the Tremendous Turtles in a round of 'la tête, les bras' (head, shoulders, knees and toes) in French and the Magical Monkeys get active whilst learning to name body parts in French!
PE
Year 6 have been developing their badminton skills in their Games for Understanding: Net/Court topic. This week they have improved their technique for overhead badminton shots, applying these in small-game situations.
Dance
This week in dance, Reception have been learning about keeping our bodies strong and healthy. We learned a variety of yoga poses to help with our flexibility, or strength and our balance.
