Bulldogs Score 10-1 Win in First High School Boys Soccer Match

Victory! Our high school boys soccer team started the season in incredible style with a big win over Waldorf.

  • Soccer

After two weeks of intense training on our brand new soccer pitch, the team was ready and excited for the season opener on Monday, September 14. Waldorf kicked off the match with possession of the ball. The midfield threaded a few passes together and got the ball to their striker, but the Bulldog defense held a unified line and thwarted the attack. Quinton put pressure on the ball and blocked a shot, and the ball was cleared from the box (seldom returning to Bulldog territory for the rest of the first half).

Our midfield quickly moved into attack. After several waves of strikes, a number of desperate clearances and a save from the Waldorf captain in goal, Kostya curved the ball into the bottom corner of the goal eight minutes into the game. Straight after Waldorf kick-off, Luc challenged a Waldorf midfielder and came out with the ball. After a good run, Luc passed off the ball to Kostya who quickly increased his goal tally to two – just one minute after his first. During the remaining first half, we kept Waldorf on their side of the pitch. The back line prevented all attacks and redistributed the ball to the wingers who led seemingly unending waves of attack. At the half, we led Waldorf 5-0 with goals from Luc, Will and Kostya.

We continued our smooth play in the second half. Rory (last year's top scorer) opened the scoring with a lovely shot on his left foot. After an hour of play, the Bulldogs released another phase of aggressive attacking, resulting in four more goals in just 15 minutes. The most memorable? Daniel’s powerful strike from outside the box, which sailed into the top corner. Later in the second half, Waldorf got on the score sheet with a goal from a corner.

In the end, the Bulldogs scored a 10-1 win over Waldorf.

It was a lengthy match, which gave all 15 members of the squad a chance to show off their skills in a terrific performance. Coach Lucy Harper named Kostya the “Man of the Match,” thanks to his four goals and assists in several others.

With one solid match in the books, we’re looking forward to the remainder of the season! The high school boys soccer team plays Waldorf again on Tuesday, September 22 at home.
