In the 2015-16 school year, BISC South Loop was selected to be one of the first 10 schools to pilot The Juilliard School’s embedded music curriculum. Following on from the first year of our collaboration with Juilliard, it was important for Nord Anglia to evaluate the educational efficacy on students and teachers. The report, The Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme: An Evaluation One Year On, outlines the effect on transferrable skills through the embedded Juilliard music curriculum.
The research ultimately supports the reasoning behind why we collaborate with the world’s leading performing arts school — more than creating a love for learning, it is about preparing students for the world stage. Whether your child becomes an engineer, an entrepreneur or a diplomat, the skills gained from our performing arts programme will stay with your child for a lifetime.
Here are just some of the findings from the research:
Along with an improvement in musical abilities, students in schools with the programme noted an effect on transferrable skills such as creativity, confidence and problem solving.
Teachers also noted that the programme strengthened students’ skills in the following areas:
- Motivation
- Creativity
- Collaboration
- Confidence
- Global awareness
- Independence
- Problem solving
