I attended the University of Wales, Newport, earning a degree in Primary Studies with Honors and Qualified Teaching Status. I made the decision to extend my professional development by becoming a supply teacher, providing valuable experience teaching children in Nursery through Year 6 and allowing me to gain an understanding of best practicees across each year group
Before moving to Chicago, I taught for four years at Coed-y-Garn Primary School. I gained valuable experience teaching children in Years 3-6, including a Special Needs Resource class. With further experience as Head of Physical Education, Head of Information and Communications Technology, and Head of Lower Key Stage 2, I had opportunities to have a whole school impact on learning. I also have a passion for teaching literacy and was fortunate to be selected by the Education Achievement Service to work on a group project to improve standards across South-East Wales. One of the highlights of my teaching career was directing "The Tempest" as part of the Royal Shakespeare Festival, in which my class performed on a professional stage.
I am excited to be part of the team at British International School of Chicago, South Loop. The school incorporates a global, meaningful learning environment with outstanding resources and unique opportunities for cross-curricular learning. Furthermore, the small class sizes offer a personalized approach to teaching within a welcoming and diverse community. All of these mirror my own teaching philosophy.
Living in Wales, I have developed a passion for walking the many mountains within the South Wales Valleys, taking in the many breathtaking views. I am a very active person and take part in many sports. I played rugby all my life alongside cricket and golf, and I Regularly attend the gym to stay healthy. I am also a very keen traveler, spending seven wonderful summers working at a summer camp in Michigan. This taught me the true value of helping children become well-rounded individuals capable of achieving anything in life.
