While studying Psychology and Sociology in Edinburgh, Scotland, I spent a summer teaching English, Football and Athletics in La Molina. The experience of teaching young people in such a unique and exciting environment was the inspiration for my pursuit of a career in teaching.
After university, I secured a position working at a local Secondary School as a Teaching Assistant in an exceptional Learning Support Department. The three years I spent working with a variety of age groups convinced me that I wanted to work in a school environment long-term. Subsequently, I trained and completed my Post Graduate Degree in Education and was offered a teaching post in my host school. During my first two years of teaching, I spent time in Year 5, although I have been heavily involved in preparation for SATs as my PGCE training was primarily in Year 6. I have also been fortunate to take on the role of Assistant SENCo over the past two years.
I grew up in a small seaside town in northeast England called Whitley Bay. With such fantastic beaches, I spent most of my growing up exploring the coastline, cycling on long summer days out and about with friends and family. Music, film, soccer and food are hobbies of mine that I hope to continue in Chicago.
