Charity Art Auction

The first ever charity art auction for LIS was held on Friday 7th December 2018. This inaugural “black tie” event held at LIS reception area was the location of “The Gallery”. Aptly named, as the artwork was of such a high standard and beautifully and professionally displayed. Many generous parents and friends of the school braved the chilly evening and traffic delays to attend our event. Feedback from our guests included “thank you for the opportunity to help”, “the artwork was so creative and amazing”, “this is a fantastic way to help the charities”, “our children are incredible and it is good to see them learning to help others as well”. There were many more similar comments made by guests.

The Silent Auction gave our guests time to truly look at the artwork produced by their children, choose carefully and then watch the bids, finally winning the coveted item they wanted.  Special congratulations to all who placed a winning bid.

This event was organized to raise money for two thoughtfully chosen local causes: Chengdu Animal Rescue and Juilong Village School. We were grateful to have Sara Freeman – Manager and Founder of Chengdu Animal Rescue (CAR) address our guests and speak about this non-profitorganization. To date CAR has rescued, rehabilitated and re-homed over 250 animals. CAR relies entirely on volunteers and donations to continue to do this vital work in Chengdu.

Juilong Village School is a school in a remote area. They lack the very basic and essential items and resources to run their school. There is little or no heating for students or teachers which makes learning and teaching all the more difficult. Necessities that are critical for them to study and learn are needed.  In order for us support them best, we will assist them to purchase the required learning resources and essential items. This will help the students fulfil their goal of learning and ease the burden on families and the school.

As we finalise the last remaining details from our auction, we hope to announce the amount raised shortly, when all donations have been received. We would like to take a moment to express our tremendous gratitude to everyone who helped make this event a great success.

A big thank you to our sponsors New Zealand Education Dept for the NZ wine prizes, Vine Meow Wine, Léman International School - students and staff, Waldorf Astoria, Chengdu Expat and the anonymous family donations. We are overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity.

Although the auction has ended... the important work of our charities continues.

Kind regards

Maude Wilkinson and Emma Colling
