Students in PK A have enjoyed the IEYC unit on My Toy Shop – Bears. They have done many fun actives. As an entry point to the unit students had a picnic in class near the three bear’s cottage, the role play area.

They have listened to many stories. ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears, ‘Brown bear, Brown bear’ and ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ to name a few of their favorites. Students thoroughly enjoyed the role play activities for the stories. By playing a part of a story, students learn new vocabulary to retell a story as well as gain self-confidence.

Our students are learning letters and sounds. They have played a drum to learn the letter sound ‘d’. Students are now able to recongnise letters in the environment.

We have researched about different kinds of bears and what they look like. They have enjoyed painting portraits of bears. Students also inquired into bear habitats and used a globe and maps to locate different countries where bears are found.

For Numeracy our students have learnt many counting rhymes as well as sorting bears according the size and colour .This week they have measured water and sand.

To end this unit, we will go on a field trip to the Chengdu Zoo next week.
