UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter. With the ratification of this founding document by the majority of its signatories, including the five permanent members of the Security Council, the United Nations officially came into being.

24 October has been celebrated as United Nations Day since 1948. In 1971, the United Nations General Assembly recommended that the day be observed by Member States as a public holiday.

At Country Day School, United Nations Day is celebrated every year with a Parade of Nations, where students from Early Childhood and Elementary School represent the country where they were born, have lived or are coming from. On Wednesday, October 24, 2018, 45 countries were represented, including Australia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Ghana, Argentina, France, Ireland, Hungary, United States, China, Japan, etc!

In the Parade, 5th grade students represent the millions of stateless children, those children around the world who do not have birth certificate and no country of origin, deprived of all Children's Rights. "A child without any nationality can face a lifetime of discrimination. Statelessness can profoundly affect the ability of children to access education and adequate healthcare, and to fulfill their ambitions and dreams for the future. Preventing and ending childhood statelessness is the best way to stop the spread of the problem. Ensuring that no child is left stateless will lead to better enjoyment of human rights by individuals and improved development outcomes for communities and States."
