Last week was a very busy and exciting time for Year 1GD, ‘The Giraffes’ with it being International Week. All the planning and preparation was worth it though as it was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn about the diversity within our school.
As our classroom transformed into Japan, we were very lucky to have some of the school mum’s come in and show us how to write our name in Japanese.
Taichi’s mum came into school and read a story in Japanese to us. After we listened to the story, we used the pictures to retell the story and talk about what happened.
We performed a Japanese dance in the special International Week assembly.
We have been learning about 2d shapes in Maths. We went on a hunt around the school to find 2d shapes in the environment. The children were able to name, locate and describe the shapes they saw.
In maths, we have been finding the value of numbers above 10. We used sticks of ten cubes and units to find number greater than 10.
