Thank you to all parents who have signed up for today’s parent consultations. I hope the meetings were informative.
Last week, we enjoyed numerous activities at Gharaffa. Pret a Portrait visited the school Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to photograph the students who thoroughly enjoyed posing for the camera. We are hoping to see the results in the very near future. Pret a Portrait plan to host a short presentation for parents which should provide a useful overview of the ordering process.
Our students attended two sports events last week. Year 6 students participated in the Indoor Athletics competition held at EMS on Tuesday, coming in 5th place and Year 5 competed in Indoor Athletics at DESS, coming in 3rd place. Congratulations to both our teams. Tomorrow, Year 4 will be attending Kings’ school to compete in Indoor Athletics. Good luck to our Year 4 team.
Wednesday’s EAL (English as an Additional Language) was attended by parents who were interested in finding out more about EAL and how students whose mother tongue isn’t English can be better supported at home. This session was led by Beata Jarasova, the school’s Head of EAL who spoke to parents about allowing children to speak in their mother tongue at home and saving spoken English for reading and homework activities. If you would like to find out more about EAL, please contact Beata.
Thank you to all parents who attended today’s Year 3 and Year 4 maths and English workshop. The school will be hosting the Year 5 and Year 6 workshop tomorrow.
At last week’s FCS (Friends of Compass) meeting the team voted in a Vice Chairperson and FCS secretary. The meeting was extremely well supported by our parent body. At this week’s meeting we discussed the school’s forthcoming International Breakfast which will be held on 10th November and the students’ Blanket sale (second hand toys, games and books market) which is planned for 11th December. FCS title holders are as follows:
Chairperson – Rebbecca Leslie
Vice Chairperson – Claudia Mohite
Secretary – Nicola Levey
Treasurer – Imran Moughal
On Wednesday, I met with the Student Leaders to share the school’s plans for our new Adventure playground. The children contributed some great ideas which will now be passed on to the facilities team. The school will need to ensure that the playground meets health and safety requirements before proceeding with the build. We will keep parents informed of any developments.
Have a good week.
