A warm welcome to new and returning families.
This week we have had a great start to school, celebrating and praising students from the last year of term and highlighting the opportunities available to them throughout the year. Students received awards for their house point allocation, their attendance and were recognised by each teaching subject.
The Student Council and Cabinet application form is now available for students at main reception. The deadline for applications is Sunday, 9 September. The Student Council is a vessel for student voice within the school. Students can put themselves forward to represent their peers in their form. The student cabinet will be made up by two students from each year group. They will form part on the organising committee for school events and present at school events throughout the year. Mrs Porter spoke to the students about musical opportunities this year. As well as the comprehensive ECAs available to students, we will be launching the Secondary Production for 2018/19 – “Annie”. Dr Warren also gave an overview of the Duke of Edinburgh scheme and the 90 students currently participating in it. He also informed Years 7, 8 and 9 of his plan to involve them in this year’s activities.
We have shared with the students the 3 R’s in school – being Respectful, Responsible and Ready. Throughout the year we will be referring to this and what it means to the students. Please continue the discussion at home in what this means. Being ready is extremely important. Please be reminded that the school day begins at 07:15am. We have set up a new system this year in that the parents of students who arrive late will get a text to state that their child was late for school. Could I also ask you to phone the school if your child is going to be absent. If your child is not in school and we haven’t received a phone call as to the reason why, we will now be contacting parents.
We are looking forward to meeting parents at the upcoming events taking place in school. Please see the details below:
- Succeeding in Years 7,8 and 9 – Monday, 03 September
- Succeeding in the IB – Wednesday, 12 September
- School in action and meet the tutor – Tuesday, 18 September
- Succeeding at IGCSE – Wednesday, 19 September
I look forward to meeting you all over the forthcoming year.
