In classrooms across the school on Thursday, students focused on how they can ensure that they stay safe when using the internet. The children thought about why personal details should not be shared online and if they ever feel worried or uncomfortable when using the internet that they should inform an adult. As a school, our priority is the child’s safety, we have firewalls in place to protect all our children and ensure internet usage is at all times supervised. Ms Syed, STEAM and IT Coordinator, led Thursday’s assembly where the children had the opportunity to reflect on why it is important not to hold conversations or share information online with people they don’t know. Ms Syed also shared work produced over the holiday for the school’s internet safety competition. There were some superb pieces of work. Well done to all the children who submitted an entry. Children who presented in Thursday’s assembly did an amazing job! Videos, posters and other resources were used to reinforce the message that we need to stay SMART and ensure we stay safe. Thank you to Ms Syed for leading and organising the day. Thank you to all parents who also attended the school’s internet safety presentation.
The school is now busily preparing for our International Days which begin on Saturday, 9 November with the International Breakfast. Gates will open at 8.30am with the event finishing at 11am. I’d like to thank our wonderful FCS (Friends of Compass School) team for all their hard work. Entrance for this event is free, however, we’d like to request that families bring a food dish which is typical of the food eaten in their home country which can be shared at this event. Staff have prepared many activities which will hopefully entertain our children. There is no cost for these events. The only cost will be for the Bouncy Castle where there is a small charge to cover the cost of the equipment. Other entertainment is also planned for the morning; we are currently finalising details. We very much looking forward to seeing our families on Saturday and also on Sunday, 10 November for our International Parade which will take place at 8am.
Thank you to all families who have sent in toys, games and books which will be sold at next week’s toy market. I would also like to thank parents and staff who have volunteered to swim for UNICEF this week. We are doing incredibly well at the moment with the aim of swimming 90km by Thursday, the width of Qatar. Results will be announced at Saturday’s breakfast and will have full media coverage this week as it is the first time this event has taken place in Qatar. Thank you to Ms Lyons and our PE department for organising this wonderful initiative.
Thank you to all parents who attended our monthly coffee morning today. It was lovely to see some familiar faces. Our FCS meeting will take place at 7.30am tomorrow.
A quick reminder to our Year 5 and Year 6 parents that there will be a secondary showcase for parents and children on Sunday, 17 November at 8am and an open evening at Madinat Khalifa which will take place at 4.30pm on Wednesday, 20 November. Both events are opportunities to find out more about Compass school’s secondary provision. We look forward to seeing you there.
