Early Years 1 Teacher

I have been living in Qatar for six years with my husband and teenage daughter. I have worked with children and young people for the past nineteen years both in the UK and Qatar. Most recently I have worked in two international schools in Doha delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. In addition to this I have trained in assessment and verification procedures with City & Guilds in the U.K. which provided me with great insight into the variety of settings (nurseries, schools, Surestart centres), and their philosophies. This broad understanding makes me open to new ideas and professional development opportunities.

Over the last four years family holidays have been exciting and fun-filled. From a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon to exploring the Adelaide Hills, I never would have dreamed of travelling so far afield before moving to Doha. For me the best part of living in Doha is great weather for nine months of the year, a big change from the cold and wet weather often experienced in the U.K.  I really enjoy swimming and reading in my garden (I would be lost without my Kindle), as well as early morning walks along the Corniche.  Add to this all the new friends we have made since moving here, many of whom have inspired our holiday destinations, and the whole experience has been a very positive one.

realised early on that Compass International is different to other schools because all the staff really care about the children’s learning and want them to do their very best. This creates such a positive atmosphere, which I am sure is picked up on, both by the students and parents. The family atmosphere at the school creates a sense of warmth and security enabling the students to step out of their comfort zone, and become successful in innovative ways.  Over the past year the Early Years team have worked hard to develop the Early Years curriculum, and build on the philosophy of continuous provision as the basis for learning in our department.  I look forward to continuing down this path over the coming year.
