After working in Year 4 for my first year in NAS Dubai, I have been part of the Early Years team for the last two years. This is a strong passion of mine, as it is wonderful to see the independent learning fostered by the young children from an early age. This is where the foundations are built for the future, as they learn through play and enquiry, following their interests and deepening their knowledge of the world around them. I have also been greatly involved in the Primary musicals – Performing Arts can allow everyone to grow in confidence, and it should be offered to all children to enable them to foster this growth.
Before moving to Dubai in August 2016, I taught in primary schools in Dundee, Scotland, for eight years across a range of stages from Reception to Year 6, therefore understanding the progression of skills throughout the different stages of the school. Teaching is my passion and I strive to enable all children to reach their full potential by becoming confident individuals and successful learners. I have led a range of development groups within schools, particularly in the progression of skills in Music, Reading, Maths, Profiling, Growth Mindset and most recently in Enrichment.
I firmly believe that hard work and enjoyment is the key to success. This has been embedded in my own learning throughout my schooling, thereafter at the University of St Andrews where I achieved my German degree, and finally in my teaching qualification at the University of Strathclyde. I am about to embark on the final year of my Masters in Education this coming year with a focus on preparing children for the future in the early years of education.
During my spare time I enjoy performing on stage – singing, playing the piano, and lately have accepted a place in the choir: Dubai City Sound. I have a great interest in learning about new cultures and travelling and am very excited to be remaining in Dubai for future years.
I am really looking forward to meeting my new class and working together to have a positive, fun, exciting year where all children can be confident individuals achieving their full potential. Learning through play and creativity allows learning to develop in all directions, personal to each child.
No day is the same as any other – unlocking the door each day opens a new world.
