Year 1, Primary Drama

I completed my BA honours in History in 2010 and spent five years working in schools in my hometown of Birmingham before moving over in August 2015 to teach KS1 here at NAS Dubai.

My knowledge of EYFS and experience of the Key Stage 1 curriculum means that I understand where my students have come from and how to support them in their journey to become high achievers.

It has always been a dream of mine to work in the bustling city of Dubai and to explore the local culture the city has to offer. I have thoroughly enjoyed my two years at NAS Dubai; working with an outstanding team, helping my class to achieve, embracing the excellent home school relations with parents and working in a truly international school has been an absolute pleasure.

Since high school I have always had an interest in the performing arts and having access to the incredible facilities in the school auditorium has allowed me to direct performances which have given my students the opportunity to shine, in front of their peers and their parents.

I also frequently bring the performing arts into my teaching style, whether it’s singing songs to remember number facts in mathematics or using drama as a tool in both English and History to promote empathy and understanding of characters, stories and real life situations. I feel the use of performing arts in my classroom promotes an exciting, positive and stimulating environment for my pupils to learn.

I also have a passion for cooking and healthy eating, having grown my own produce back home (both in and out of school). This is a wonderful tool to promote scientific understanding of ourselves, how to promote a healthy lifestyle and the world around us.

Outside of the classroom I enjoy swimming and keeping fit, so being able to use the school pool and the spin studio is of great appeal to me. Through these activities I am able to meet both parents and colleagues who share similar interests. I also enjoy exploring my surroundings, discovering the various attractions this fantastic city has to offer.

Furthermore, I enjoy playing golf and I have been able to play at some of the world class golf courses the Emirate has to offer.

Ultimately, I continuously like to develop my own capabilities as a teacher and contribute to the success of NAS Dubai and the students at this fantastic school.
