primary teacher helping year 3 students in maths class

Amy McDonald

My teaching career started after graduating from Bangor University in North Wales in 2010 with an honours degree in Primary Education.

For the first year after graduating, I worked as a supply teacher, undertaking a number of different roles in different schools. This provided me with valuable experience in gaining an understanding of the challenges within different year groups, whilst also allowing me to develop my own teaching style. I then moved on to take a permanent role teaching a Year 5/6 mixed class in a large village school in the UK.

Although I loved my school and my job, I felt that after two years it was time to move on and develop my career by teaching in different countries and experiencing different cultures. In August 2013 I began my journey by taking on a teaching position at Compass International School in Doha. For my first two years there I taught Year 3, but then took on the challenge of running the PE department on one of our campuses for two years. This was a rewarding experience which I really enjoyed, but in all honestly, really missed the classroom and having my own class. After four years in Doha, I decided it was time to move on and decided Dubai was the place for me! Two years later, I am still here in NAS Dubai and certainly can't see myself leaving any time soon!
