Secondary Mathematics

I grew up in a small village in Cheshire in the North West of England before studying Economics at the University of Sheffield. From there I returned home to complete my PGCE in Secondary Mathematics at the University of Chester, where I gained experience teaching mathematics in a wide variety of settings across Cheshire and Merseyside.

I have started my teaching career at an outstanding, selective girls’ school in Altrincham near Manchester, where I have gained invaluable experience teaching the UK KS3 National Curriculum, GCSE, IGCSE and A Level in an extremely high-achieving setting. I have also been able to be involved with the training and mentoring of teachers and trainee teachers across a trust of schools in Greater Manchester, which has been excellent experience so early in my career.

I feel endlessly proud of the academic and personal achievements of every pupil I have taught so far, and feel that their examination results truly demonstrate the positive impact that my teaching has had upon their learning. The ability to build strong, professional relationships with the pupils I teach is often identified as a personal strength of mine, based upon mutual respect and an understanding of the challenges and difficulties which young people are faced with in the modern world.

I believe that mathematics is best taught through enquiry, investigation and discovery in order to encourage young people to be the leaders, problem-solvers and pioneers of the future. I am dedicated to being a reflective practitioner and am constantly looking for new ways to inspire a love of mathematics into the pupils I teach, which is something I am excited to be able to continue doing at NAS Dubai.

During my leisure time, I enjoy keeping fit, playing piano and watching old black and white films. My main passion outside of mathematics is travelling the world, which means I will be making the most of Dubai’s ideal location to travel as much as I can during the school holidays, as well as enjoying all the exciting experiences that Dubai has to offer- mainly all the amazing restaurants, as I am a real foodie!

Whilst the prospect of moving abroad can sometimes be daunting, I am thoroughly looking forward to the new experiences, challenges and rewards which will come with taking the next step in my career at NAS Dubai.
