Ashleigh Harding

Raised in a small town between the sea and the South Downs of Sussex I distributed my time fairly equally between the two, cultivating a passion for Science and the outdoors.

I have found that far more than being a way to explain the world around us, Science also delivers to us a mental flexibility and problem solving capacity that gives us a great advantage in a world of near constant change. So it had to be Science.

This will be my first international teaching position and I couldn’t be more excited about joining NAS Dubai. I received a first class honours degree in Ecology and Biogeography and having completed my PGCE 8 years ago I have built a strong professional reputation, as well as a provable record of attainment.

I am a keen traveller, have worked in the field and got over a crippling fear of deep water by joining Shoreham Lifeboat crew and becoming their first ever female member (ask me about that some time!). This experience has enriched my teaching and I often call upon it to give me new ways of relating particularly abstract theory in a more tangible way.

A good education rewards choice, wonder, confidence and resilience. For me this makes what I do one of the most important and impactful professions in the world and I believe that education should be memorable and a reward in itself. As Yeats said, the lighting of a fire, rather than the filling of a pail.

One of the great joys of my experience has been getting to know my students and discovering their motivations and helping them to achieve their goals and I am so looking forward to getting to know you all!
