primary teacher helping year 3 students in maths class

Debbie Dorkin

I completed my teaching qualification at Nottingham University (UK) and for the last two years I worked throughout Early Years and the Primary school at NAS Dubai as a full time cover teacher.

Previously I worked for Nord Anglia Education at the British International School in Abu Dhabi as an Additional Needs Teacher in the 2014/2015 academic year.

I have just completed the dissertation for my Masters in Education, focusing on the teaching of phonics and development of reading skills in Year 1.

I am South African and have lived away from my home country for some time.  I spent 12 years in the UK and I am now in my seventh year in the UAE.  I have two sons, both of whom attend NAS Dubai. I enjoy travelling with my family to different countries and also locally.  I love to hike and camp in the beautiful dunes and mountain wadis that the UAE has to offer. I have five pets at home (two dogs, two cats and a guinea pig), and my dogs like to keep me fit by taking me out running.

I am passionate about teaching and am really looking forward to teaching class 2F when Mrs Thorne is on maternity leave. Over the course of the Autumn Term I will be working in 2F from time to time and getting to know the children before Mrs Thorne takes her leave, in order to ensure a smooth transition for the children.
