Entry Requirements and Assessments

While we place a strong emphasis on academic achievement, students that demonstrate our core values of respect, tolerance, responsibility and independent thinking are at the heart of our school. When looking at pupil applications, we take all these aspects into consideration to ensure the strongest possible learning environment for your child.

How do we assess your child?

For August entry for Year 1s, we aim to meet as many of your children as possible during the assessment period. We organise assessments for our siblings and debenture holders in late November, followed by assessments for all other Year 1 children in mid-January.

While we guarantee an assessment for siblings and debenture holders, we are not able to offer assessments for all other children due to the number of applications we receive.

For all other Year groups (Years 2 - 9), we will organise assessments on a rolling basis.

As our application fee is non-refundable, we strongly encourage you to contact our Admissions Manager before you apply if you have any concerns about available places or your child's eligibility.

If your child is not offered a place during this first round of assessments, we may offer you the option of remaining on a waiting list, and we will contact you if places become available.

What happens in the Assessment?

Our Assessments are designed to be as relaxed as possible. Our aim is to get to know the children better and to understand the way in which they learn. We do not do formal interviews. Our team will be on hand to encourage and support the children throughout the Assessment, and to make them feel comfortable.

Our Assessments are usually conducted in small groups (of 8 to 10 students).

The assessment is classroom based. The children will do a number of educationally based learning activities, under the supervision and guidance of our teaching staff.

The assessment is classroom based. The children will do a number of educationally based learning activities, under the supervision and guidance of our teaching staff.

Year 3

An online assessment which includes verbal, non-verbal and spatial tasks. 

60 minutes

Year 4

An online assessment which verbal, non-verbal and spatial tasks, together with an English reading and includes a comprehension assessment.

120 minutes

Please bring the following documents to the Assessment.

  • Student’s Hong Kong ID card or Passport.
  • You may pay by cheque. Payable to: Nord Anglia International School HK Ltd 
  • You may pay by bank transfer. Please email a proof of payment to our Admissions Team.
  • We are not able to accept cash.

When will you hear from us after the Assessment?

We will contact all parents by email within two weeks of the Assessment. While we wish we could offer all children places at our school, this is unfortunately not possible. Instead, you will receive one of three notifications: 

  1. An Offer of Place, together with an Enrolment Acceptance Letter and an Invoice for payment of our non-refunable Capital Enrolment Fee (CEF). 
  2. An offer to remain on the waitlist and be contacted should a place become available
  3. An email saying that we are unable to offer a place to your child.

Priority Allocations

In common with other international schools in Hong Kong, we do offer priority for assessments and places according to the following criteria:

  • A child allocated by a Corporate Debenture holder.
  • A child allocated by an Individual Debenture holder.
  • Sibling of pupils already attending Nord Anglia International School.
  • Pupils who have attended another Nord Anglia School for a period of three months or more.
  • Pupils with English as their first language, and who are unable to access the local curriculum.

However, please note that each student must still meet our admission requirements. The final decision for all students is at the discretion of our Principal.

Students needing additional support

At Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong, we embrace the value that all children bring to our school. Our teachers are experts at working with children as individuals and adapting to a range of needs. We appreciate that each child may  need support at some time, whether with a specific learning difficulty, such as dyslexia, or an emotional need, for example as a result of a bereavement. 

It is essential, during the application stage, that parents are as open as possible about any additional support their child may need. Expert reports or talking with your child’s previous teachers are both useful ways for us to assess how well we can support your child. In some instances, we may suggest additional support in the classroom. This may incur extra charges which we will discuss with you before offering a place.

However, it may be that, after discussions with you, we feel that we cannot support your child's particular learning needs. In this case we may explain, with regret, that we can't offer a place.
