Dear Parents,

Hope you all had a good Chinese New Year break!

Please remember to check Firefly for your class blogs, homework and daily news for regular updates.

Here’s a reminder of some events and activities coming up…

PARENT WORKSHOPS

Mandarin Matrix - how you can support your child at home

Tuesday 23 February 8.30 - 9.00am - for all parents (Cafeteria)

This will be led by Mandarin Matrix staff. Mandarin Matrix is our online platform for reading, character recognition and practising, reading comprehension and assessments. Mandarin Matrix staff will show you how you can help your child at home using this system and give you some tips on how you can support their Mandarin learning.

What is the Sports Leadership Award programme? Wednesday 24 February 5.00 - 5.20pm (on Secondary Parent Consultation Evening but other parents welcome! Class 3A 1/F)

This will be led by PE Teacher, Miss Lauren Kenny who will tell you more about this exciting opportunity for our Secondary students to take part in the UK Sports Leadership Award programme and what are the benefits for your child. Also, if you are thinking further along the track, did you know the programme (Level 3) contributes to UK University points via UCAS? Miss Kenny will give you more details in her workshop.

What is the Sports Leaderships Award programme?

Thursday 25 February 8.30 - 9.00am (Years 6 - 8 parents / Cafeteria)

Same as above.

E-safety at Home

Tuesday 1 March 8.30 – 9.00am (Years 5 – 8 parents)

This will be led by our Head of Pastoral Care, Mr. David Boyd. There’s a trend with young children having more and more access to social media, and so we all need to ensure that we can create a safe online environment for our children.  We would like to encourage as many parents (specifically for Years 5 to 8, but Year 4 parents are welcome too!) to come along to this useful workshop.

For all parent workshops, please register with Ricky.Auyeung@nais.hk to save your place.

INTERNATIONAL DAY MEETING

International Day is on Friday 15 April. Led by Mrs. Mariam Khalik, the first planning meeting has been rescheduled to Friday 26 February 2:15pm. If you are still interested in getting involved or helping in any way, please contact her on Mariam.Khalik@nais.hk. For those who weren’t here last year, here’s a quick reminder of the wonderful day we had – click here.

GLOBAL GAMES ASIA 2016 UPDATE, 2 – 4 March in Hong Kong

Four international schools, namely The British School of Guangzhou, The British International School of Hanoi, Discovery Bay International School and NAIS will be competing in athletics, swimming and football. Our Primary and Secondary teams have been selected and our PE teachers have been busily training with them every day. For the Opening Ceremony, we’ve seen some pupils in action already and we can’t wait to watch it on 2 March!  More updates next week.

EASTER AND SUMMER CAMPS

Together with Kids’ Gallery and All Round Education, we will be offering exciting Easter camps here at Lam Tin for Sports, Fine Arts, and Design and Technology camps. Our Easter holidays begin on 21 March to 4 April so if you’re looking for something for your child to do, please do click here for more details. You can also come along with a friend too!

For the Summer, applications are now open for the 2016 Summer Performing Arts with Juilliard programme.  This will take place in Geneva, Switzerland from 9 – 22 July. For more details, please click here.

For this week…

PUPIL COUNCIL

Year 3 – 8 pupils have been presenting to their respective classes in the hope of becoming part of the first Pupil Council. Names were announced this week and the first meeting will take place next Thursday 25 February. They will have a greater say in improvements around the school and things that affect them. Our Secondary students on the Pupil Council include: Elena and Janice (from Year 7) and Rebecca and Ryan (from Year 8), and they will be taking the lead in this all-through Pupil Council.

PRIMARY ASSEMBLY

Our delightful Class 1D led the Primary assembly and they told us about the different types of dinosaurs. There are some excellent photos here. Thanks for Ms. Rachael Rostron and her class for their hard work and creativity!

Thank you for Bryant (Year 5) for playing on the recorder at the beginning of assembly.

SECONDARY MOVIE NIGHT – Friday 26 February 7.00 – 9.30pm, Hall

Mr. Boyd announced next week’s Secondary Movie Night. The movie will be confirmed shortly but a big thanks goes to the PTA who will be providing the film and food! Students go home as normal and can come back in casual wear. Letters will be going home today and we would appreciate it if these could be returned back on Monday. This would help us estimate the numbers of pizzas and popcorn to order!

SECONDARY REPORTS and PARENT EVENING

All Secondary reports will be sent home today too. Please have a look in time for next Wednesday’s Parent Consultation Evening between 3.30 – 7pm.
