CONGRATULATIONS ARE IN ORDER!

GLOBAL CAMPUS CREATIVE WRITING COMPETITION WINNERS ANNOUNCEMENT

We are very excited to announce that three of our students have been rewarded for this year’s Global Campus Creative Writing Competition and will have their work published in the upcoming Creative Writing anthology. In addition, one student’s work has been recognized as one of the top four stories in the world!

In Primary, Loli Gai in Year 2 and Tasiya Bogucharskaya in Year 4 have both been recognised for their excellent stories “The Magic Box” and “Amanda’s Wish”. Loli’s work is an original piece whereas Tasiya’s is a piece of fan fiction inspired by Jaqueline Wilson’s book Double Act.

In Secondary, for the third year running, Beatrice Villaflor has been selected as not only our own school’s winner but also Highly Commended in the overall competition putting her in the top 4 in the world in a competition that had literally thousands of entrants!

Beatrice’s extremely ambitious story “Rosalind’s Voices” is fan fiction based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. It is so close to the real thing that staff and students were unable to tell the difference between it and real Shakespearean quotations when they were read out in assembly!

All three students will receive a copy of the anthology when it is published later in the year.

GLOBAL CAMPUS VISUAL ARTS COMPETITION SHORTLIST ANNOUNCEMENT

We are very excited to announce the shortlist for our school entrants to this year’s Global Campus Visual Arts Competition. We had lots of entrants from all year groups who were all creating art to illustrate one of the stories submitted to the Creative Writing Competition from one of our partner schools’ around the world. The entrants were judged by our Art department and are now flying around the world in a Dropbox file to be judged by experts in other schools and beyond. We hope some of our excellent artist’s work will then be selected to appear alongside the original stories in the creative writing anthology later in the year.  Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to the art department for their support.

GLOBAL CHALLENGE - UNICEF

We’d like to remind parents and students about this year’s Global Challenge which marks the first of our collaborations with UNICEF and focused on the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development. This year’s focus is on Goal Number 3: Health and Well Being.

PRIMARY STUDENTS - HAVE YOUR SAY

Inspired by the Indian UN superheroes Chakra the Invincible and Mighty Girl, Year 7 and 8 created superheroes for the Global Goals based here in Hong Kong. We’d like all students in Primary to vote for their favourite hero before the Easter holidays using the Global Challenge section on the Global Campus area of Primary Firefly (in the Specialists area).

Over the holidays, we’d like students to make posters, draw comics and create videos showing those heroes fighting to make Hong Kong a centre of health and well being. Finally, we would also like to see students, parents and teacher sharing their ideas about how we can MAKE HONG KONG WELL AGAIN by creating videos to show how our community are promoting health and well-being though diet, exercise, community work, positive mental health and being sociable.

Last year our current Year 8s were fortunate enough to carry out an online SKYPE interview with British author Candy Gourlay live from London based around her book Shine.  Earlier this week Candy shared a charity project she is promoting to build up school libraries in her birth country the Philippines by reading an excerpt from a book of your own choice.
