Frequently asked questions

  • Is NAIS Hong Kong accredited?
Yes, NAIS Hong Kong is inspected and accredited by the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO). We’re also accredited by the Cambridge International Examinations board.
  • Are your teachers qualified?
Yes, all our teachers are UK-qualified and hold a minimum bachelor's degree along with a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE), which is a specific and targeted teacher training qualification. Our teachers from outside the UK have equivalent qualifications. Many have master's degrees or other specialised higher qualifications.
  • How does Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and your focus on ‘learning through play’ help children develop both academically and socially?
We believe the ‘learning through play’ approach in EYFS ensures children love coming to school and that they’re developing core skills based upon the UK curriculum for Early Years, adapted for our international environment here in HK.

Throughout the day, children have access to a wide range of purposefully designed learning zones. What looks and feels like play helps them build the foundations of literacy and an understanding of numbers as well as important skills of socialising with other children and learning to share.

Our teachers regularly adapt these learning zones depending on the interests of the children at the time. They’re experts at knowing when to stand back and observe the play and when to step in to support to make sure that the best learning happens.

  • How does the approach to learning change as children get older and move into Primary and Secondary?
We want to take the great foundation that the children receive in Early Years and continue to adapt the curriculum, campus, and teaching as they move into Primary and later to Secondary School. The personalised attention towards each child’s needs continues, and we enrich the rigour of the English National Curriculum with the best practice enquiry-based learning and our collaborations with Juilliard, MIT, and UNICEF.

Our IGCSE and IB Diploma programmes give students a lot of choice as to what they want to excel in as well as access to the best universities in the world. Our graduates have all received offers from their first-choice universities around the world thanks to our focus on outstanding academic results, creativity, collaboration, and global awareness.
  • English is not our family’s first language. How will my child be supported at your school?
We offer a comprehensive and proven ‘English as an Additional Language’ (EAL) programme for students. Many of our students do not speak English at the level of their year group when they initially join our school; however, our most recent results from externally administered examinations show that within a very short period, they become on track with their peers.

Our EAL team provides individualised support for students to assist them to fast-track into full participation in the classroom. Every teacher has been trained to assist students to continually improve their English through immersion in the classroom.
