Staff Profile: Mr. A. Lopes

Mr. A. Lopes

Spanish Teacher and Head of Modern Foreign Languages

Mr. Lopes was the Head of Modern Languages teaching Spanish and German at the University Technical College Plymouth in Devon, UK. Previously he taught at a British School in Bangkok in Thailand and in Nottingham, UK for 4 years teaching Spanish, German and French focusing on Secondary teaching. He has wide experience in teaching IGCSE, A Levels and the IB Diploma. Alex has an MA in Modern Foreign Languages (including Hispanic Literature and Germanic Studies).

I come originally from Lisbon in Portugal/Vigo-Galicia in Spain, and Sweden but I grew up in Hamburg -Germany, and England where I spent most of my student and professional life. I speak 6 languages fluently: English, Portuguese, Spanish, German, French, Italian and also some Dutch. I’ve also been learning Mandarin and Japanese and I hope to become fluent in these languages one day.

I consider myself to be innovative and enthusiastic about all aspects of language teaching/learning. I have a genuine passion for language learning which compliments my zeal for travel, enabling me to keep my lessons fresh, relevant and highly topical.

My main hobbies are mountain-biking when in Europe,  trekking, hiking, and diving. I also love cooking Italian food, reading fantasy and science-fiction books, meditation and above all learning new languages, as well as writing about my travels.
