Mrs. Doherty grew up in Toronto, Ontario which is where she began her career in education, working as a certified gymnastics coach, while completing her secondary and university education. After graduating from Brock University with honours, she decided to train in TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) in order to gain experience as a teacher. At this stage, Mrs. Doherty began her journey on the international scene by moving to South Korea, where she taught in both a private language academy and at a local elementary school, helping them to develop their Native English Teaching programme.
After 2 years of teaching and adventure, she decided to head to the UK to gain her Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGDE) at the University of Strathclyde, in Glasgow, Scotland. Upon completion of her degree, Mrs. Doherty moved to Shanghai where she taught across a range of year groups before moving to Hong Kong, joining the founding team at Nord Anglia International School.
Mrs. Doherty is passionate about developing confident and compassionate learners and this passion shines through in the additional roles that she has held throughout her career. She has worked as the PSHCE coordinator in Shanghai and in Hong Kong, and has always run the Student Council, providing students with opportunities to lead, build confidence and recognise their role in the wider world.
Outside of school, Mrs. Doherty enjoys spending time with her husband and two children, who are all part of the NAIS community. Hiking, Kayaking and generally enjoying the outdoor lifestyle that Hong Kong offers are among her favourite activities.
