Mr. J. Mertz

Mr. J. Mertz

EAL Teacher

Mr. Mertz graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Coaching from the University of Central Lancashire in Preston, England in 2009 and then began working as a multi-sports coach focusing on disability sport and additional support needs. After some time working in ecommerce, Mr. Mertz returned to a learning and development career, first as a Teaching and Learning Assistant at Nord Anglia, before moving into the EAL department in 2021.

Throughout his academic and working life, he has highly valued the importance of professional development, completing extra-curricular courses such as a TEFL course, health and safety certificates, a disability coaching award and various sporting governing body badges. His teaching philosophy is based around inclusion, promoting positive class engagement and ensuring that all children feel valued and confident in their learning.

Mr. Mertz is originally from Manchester, England and arrived in Hong Kong in 2018 with his wife and two young children. He enjoys both playing and watching a variety of sports, including football, rugby and boxing. Since arriving in Hong Kong, he has embraced the outdoors and enjoys camping, hiking and kayaking with friends and family.
