Staff Profile: Mr. R. Doherty

Mr. R. Doherty

Geography, IGCSE Global Perspectives and IBDP Global Politics Teacher, Extended Essay Co-ordinator

Mr Doherty graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with a BA (Hons) in Communications. He has been teaching internationally since 2005 in South Korea, China and Hong Kong and holds a PGCE in Education and a LTCL Diploma in TESOL.

After beginning his career in education working with students in order to develop their English language, he moved into teaching Geography while working at the British International School in Shanghai.  He joined NAIS HK as a founding member in 2014 and since then has played a leading role in the development of several different subject areas in the secondary school, including EAL, IGCSE Global Perspectives and IBDP Global Politics. He is also the Extended Essay Coordinator.

Mr. Doherty’s teaching goals are to help each student develop their personal and academic confidence so that they can feel able to progress to the next stage in their own learning. By developing a growth mindset in all of his students, Mr. Doherty strongly believes that each student will share his own enthusiasm for learning.

Outside of school, Mr. Doherty enjoys taking advantage of the wonderful range of outdoor activities that Hong Kong has to offer. He can often be found on the waters off the coast of Clear Water Bay on a paddle board or kayak and he also spends a lot of his free time exploring the hiking trails in the surrounding countryside of this incredible city.
