Ms. D. Yu

Ms. D. Yu

Music Teacher, Sandringham C House Tutor

Miss Yu attended the Royal Northern College of Music and Manchester Metropolitan University where she received her joint Bachelor of Music and Teaching Degrees in 2010. Miss Yu went on to teach instrumental and classroom music to a range of year groups across primary, secondary and sixth form schools in the North West of England.

In 2013 Miss Yu moved to Dubai working as an early years and primary school music teacher before joining the newly built Nord Anglia School Dubai, where she spent 4 years working with students from the ages of 3-16. In 2018 Miss Yu moved on to return to her roots and joined Nord Anglia International School Hong Kong.

Miss Yu is passionate about music and believes every child has musical potential. She believes it is her job as a teacher to nurture a student's potential by guiding them and allowing them to explore their ideas. Miss Yu feels the best way for children to engage with music is to have fun and to learn through practical music skills. She encourages children to sing and play instruments as often as possible in music lessons and loves how much they smile when they perform for one another.

Miss Yu has always been an active musician. From the age of nine, she learned the trombone and has always played in brass bands, orchestras, big bands and show bands. In her free time she loves to perform with orchestras and ensembles and has been lucky enough to perform alongside classical artists Il Divo and Andrea Bocelli.

When not in school Miss Yu can be found practising her Cantonese in local restaurants, out on a long and peaceful hike, or in the kitchen perfecting family and local recipes.
