Health and Safety Update 15.03.20

Dear Parents,

As a school we have planned ahead in case of school closure. As of Friday the MOE has stated that schools must only close if directed by them but we will respect any parent’s decision to keep their children at home.

If the MOE declares schools must close the following will happen.

Communication

  • School closure information will be sent from the Principal via the parent app.

  • School closure information will also appear on BSKL website.

  • Heads of School will inform parents of the school procedures in place for home learning.

  • Information about daily home learning will come from your child’s teachers.

  • All members of staff will have access to email.

  • Our counsellors will be available online - request an appointment through email.

In order to be prepared at home I would like to suggest considering the following for age relevant children

  • Provide an environment conducive to learning; access to technology, safe and quiet space during daytime. Where possible children should not work in their bedrooms.

  • Engage in conversation on online/home learning activities/assignments.

  • Monitor time spent engaging in online and offline learning.

  • Support emotional balance by providing ample room and time for reflection, physical activity, conversation and play.

Our students need to also consider the following

  • Dedicate appropriate time to learning, comparable to a school day and/or as guided by their teacher if they are a younger Primary Student.

  • Identify a comfortable and quiet space to study/learn.

  • Submit all work in accordance with the provided timeline or due date.

  • Students with a tablet need to have their charger at home.

  • Ensure they also look after their health and wellbeing by eating well and doing exercise.

This week staff will talk through with the relevant aged students what home learning will look like.

Public Examination

As the situation keeps changing, exam students have already been advised not to travel during the Easter break in case they are quarantined. Currently, UK Examination Boards have stated that public exams (GCSE and A-Levels) will go ahead as scheduled and we are monitoring their advice closely.  Please see Mrs Zora’s email about external exams here

Internal exams for Key Stage 3 and Year 10, scheduled for after the Easter break, are being reviewed and parents will be contacted by Mrs Zora.

Precautionary Measures

We continue to be vigilant with our precautionary measures and need your support with this.

  • We have cancelled all school fixtures for the immediate future.

  • We are  looking at ways to reduce the number of people who enter school that aren’t our students.

  • We  have requested families to self quarantine  if they have been in close or near proximity  with any cases of covid-19 and appreciate their support in this.

  • We ask  anyone who attended the Ijtimak Tabligh event at Seri Petaling Mosque to also self quarantine.

All staff have now filled in a travel declaration form for the Easter break and I would ask parents to do the same even if they are not travelling. Please find the link here

Contingency planning is now a feature of the senior leadership team, and we are meeting daily to review. We will be updating you regularly.

Kind regards,

Janet Brock
Principal
