What a week it was for BSKL at the 2025 MSSD Petaling Utama Athletics Championship!  The most competitive 4 day meet in the district brought together nearly 3,000 athletes from 125 schools, with around 6,000 total entries across numerous track and field events, some with over 50 athletes vying for a medal.
The blazing sun and sudden downpours made the competition even more intense, and with medals and district titles on the line, young athletes battled against some of the toughest competitors in the District to win honours and earn their place on the district team.

In the L3 Boys Category, Zac (Year 9) won three Golds, broke a district record and was awarded the coveted title of L3 District Athlete of the Year. Zac, coming in as the defending champion, competed in the L3 Discus event and despite heavy rains that made the discus ring wet and slippery which limited the speed of his rotational throws, Zac managed to break the  10-year old district record with a throw of 35.45 metres.  In the Shot Put event, Zac, once again the defending champion, won Gold in a neck-to-neck battle with the athlete who eventually finished second. Zac’s mental strength and perseverance saw him improve his distance throw by throw to convincingly take the Gold with a huge final throw of 11.95 metres, just 16 cm short of the 29-year-old district record. In the Javelin event, Zac threw a phenomenal 39.17m, nearly 5 metres more than his nearest competitor to take the Gold again! During the closing ceremony of the 2025 MSSD Petaling Utama Athletics Championship, Zac was awarded the L3  District Athlete of the year title (Olahragawan L3) for his outstanding performance at the meet.

In the P1 Girls Category, Sasha (Year 11) also won three Golds and broke a district record.  In the Shot Put event, Sasha won Gold and  broke the district record with a powerful throw of 11.17 metres, beating the previous record by nearly 1.5 metres. She also won Gold in the Discus event, with a throw of 38.30 metres just 3cm short of her own district record, but beating her nearest competitor by over 12 metres.  Sasha won her third Gold  in the Javelin event, again narrowly missing out on breaking her own record of 34.54metres, with a throw of 34.26 metres which was 13 metres more than the second place winner.  She tied for the P1 District Athlete of the year title with another athlete who had also won 3 golds and broken a record. However, the rule of using the age of the record as a tie breaker was applied and the title was given to the other athlete as the record she had broken was older than the record Sasha broke.

Pearl (Year 8), competed in the P3 Girls category and  gave BSKL two more medals, winning a Bronze in the Discus event with a throw of 16.90m, as well as a Bronze in the Shot Put event with a throw of 6.91m. She also competed in the P3 Javelin event, gaining valuable experience in that event. Quite a commendable performance for Pearl who was competing at MSSD for the first time!

Megan (Year 11)  also competed in the P1 Girls category for the 100 and 200 metres sprint events, placing 8th in a fiercely fought 100m final, after winning her heat earlier in the day.

What an amazing championship for BSKL: four athletes brought in six Gold medals, two Bronze medals, two District records and a District Athlete of the Year title!

Both Zac and Sasha have now received their official call-ups to represent the Petaling Utama District Team at the MSS Selangor Athletics Championship in July 2025. We’re proud to have two BSKL Lions on the district team and can’t wait to see what they  achieve next at MSSS.

A special thank you also goes out to Ms Heather Yap for all her work and support to keep the team organized!

Congratulations to Zac, Sasha, Pearl and Megan—you’ve made BSKL proud!
