Miss Stephanie Smailes

1B Teacher

Miss Smailes grew up in Hong Kong before studying Philosophy at the University of Leeds. She began her international teaching career in Beijing where she lived and worked for three years. She then moved to the UK where she worked in Nottingham before seeking adventure in Myanmar in 2016.

Qualifications

BA Philosophy, University of Leeds; PGCE (Teach First), University of Nottingham; CELTA Qualified, Cambridge University ESOL; MA (on-going) Leadership in Education, University of Warwick.


About

Miss Smailes grew up in Hong Kong before studying Philosophy at the University of Leeds. She began her international teaching career in Beijing where she lived and worked for three years. She then moved to the UK where she worked in Nottingham before seeking adventure in Myanmar in 2016.

Miss Smailes has been trained extensively in the new British curriculum and assessment without levels. She is going into her third year with the British School Yangon and excited to be teaching in Year 1 as well as continuing her role as English Coordinator for Primary.

She is extremely passionate about creating independent learners who take risks and aren't afraid to make mistakes.

Miss Smailes loves the performing arts, music, reading and travel. In her spare time she is learning French and piano and is an avid yogi, touch rugby and netball player.
