Joris van Beek

Joris van Beek

Elementary Music Teacher, After School Music Coordinator & PreK Dutch Teacher

Joris (pronounced Yoris) was raised in an artistic family. At age seven, he started playing the violin and seven years later he founded his first band. This marked the beginning of a long and fruitful musical career.

After being a musician for twenty years, Joris decided it was time for a change and studied a BA in Music at the Codarts University for the Arts in Rotterdam. Later, he also graduated with a BA degree of Music Education at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. Joris developed further by following courses and observing music classes at schools in Hungary about music education according to the Kodály concept. He loves sharing his joy and passion for playing music and encourages his students to reach for a high musical level.

Joris plays a wide variety of instruments, including the violin, double bass, piano, guitar, mandolin and some additional interesting instruments such as the gadulka, trumpet-violin and klassik kemence.

During his free time, you can find him hiking on a mountain or catch him playing a 'Rachenitsa' in Bulgaria.
