Marga Akerboom

Marga Akerboom

Head of Modern Languages

Marga is a Dutch national who lived and worked for many years in Cairo, Egypt, and in Warsaw, Poland, before arriving in Rotterdam. She has taught French, Dutch and Personal & Social Education in both British and American schools and also has experience as an IB Coordinator. She developed Modern Languages department in Rotterdam and published 'Implementing an Elementary School Mother-tongue Literacy Program. A Guide for Administrators and Language Teachers'.

Language is her passion. For Marga, languages are essential tools for both teaching and learning and are also expressions of culture and identity. She strongly believes that, since the ability to use more than one language has practical, educational and social benefits, all students need to acquire and maintain a strong foundation in what they consider to be their first language, as well as learning a second or more other languages.
