Primary School students pumped up by marvellous moving monsters Year 2 investigate pneumatic systems. This Term in Design Technology Year 2 has investigated pneumatic systems by looking at how air is used to move toys and make sounds.

The children have used syringes, tubes and balloons to investigate closed pneumatic systems and see how the air pressure moves objects. They were then able to explain how simple pneumatic systems work using impressive scientific vocabulary.

The next step was to apply what they have learnt to designing and making a moving monster in a detailed diagram. Each student planned the stages of their work in a storyboard, including the materials needed, how they would be joined and how the pneumatic system would work. Then the students voted as a group for a monster to make, giving reasons for their choices. Children worked collaborated, brainstorming ideas to solve problems.  They then evaluated their finished product as a team.
