Week Beginning 6 February 2017

We look forward to welcoming the students back on Monday 6th February and hope that everyone had an enjoyable Chinese New Year.

  • Please note that there will be no ECAs on Tuesday 21 or Thursday 23 February due to Parent Teacher Conferences.  BISCAP and Swimming will not be affected.
  • We do our best to ensure the children’s hair is dried after swimming. To support us with this please can you make sure that your child brings a rubber swim hat, and a warm hat for outside play. Thank you for your continued support  with this.
  • Now the weather is beginning to get colder, please send your child with a coat and/or school fleece clearly labelled with their name.  Please do not send ‘hoodies’.  Children may also like to bring a hat to keep their head warm, especially after swimming.

In Literacy this week, the children will be reviewing different types of poetry. This will build on their experience of calligrams and alliteration in Term 1. They will be consolidating their knowledge about rhyme and extending their experience further by looking at onomatopoeia in poetry and kennings. By the end of the week they will use their knowledge to create their own poetry to match famous pieces of art from round the world.

Alliteration, onomatopoeia, rhyme, syllable, verse, kenning, calligram

In Maths, the children will be consolidating their knowledge of 2D shapes and making 3D shapes using modelling materials. They will be challenged to recognise 3D shapes in different orientations and describe them with increasing accuracy. They will also be identifying horizontal, vertical, perpendicular and parallel lines within the shapes.

In Themed Learning the focus will remain on Art. This week the children will continue to focus on learning a key art technique and use this to create their own paintings in the style of Seurat or Klee. With Seurat the children will experiment and investigate with the technique of Pointillism and then use their own landscape photography to create a painting using dots. Klee made use of geometric shapes and children learning this skill will focus on "taking a pencil for a walk" and filling in the spaces with watercolours.

In Digital Literacy, the children will consolidate their use of the Espresso Coding website , which enables pupils to create programs by using code blocks.

Our focus this week in PHSCE will be to look at giving feedback. This will link directly to the development of our art skills, where the children will evaluate what is going well and giving, helpful and specific feedback to each other to help improve our work.

Feedback, improve, positive, helpful, constructive, support, persevere, encourage
