DCIS Week Beginning 10th October

First set of Primary Parent Teacher Conferences, Juilliard Curriculum Specialist visit, Online Parent Safety Workshop and Deepavali Primary Assembly take centre stage this week

  • Parent Teacher Conference 2016
  • Online Safety Workshop
  • Juilliard-Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme 1 year evalution
  • DCIS Deepavali Assembly

Dear DCIS Parents and Guardians,

In the last week we were able share more about both the Global Campus and the Reading Fundamentals approach at our DCIS Parent Workshops. If you were unable to attend the workshops, the presentations are available below and do not hesitate to contact our team if you have any questions.

As we rapidly approach our October half term break (Term Dates for both 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 are attached below), there are many events happening this week:

1. Primary Parent Teacher Conferences: We start off this week with Primary School (Nursery – Year 6) Parent Teacher Conferences on both Monday, 10th October and Tuesday, 11th October. Parent Teacher Conferences are a wonderful opportunity to extend lines of communication between home and school, to keep parents informed about their children's progress — both academic and social — and for developing cooperative strategies that can ultimately benefit every student.

2. Online Safety Parent Workshop: Unfortunately most parents are in the dark about applying parental controls to online activity. Surveys have shown that 20% of parents admit that they haven’t a strategy to warn their children about the risks of the internet. With this workshop we give parents the tools to help navigate the digital minefield on everything from cyber-bullying to having a healthy body image.

3. IPC Parent Workshop: The International Primary Curriculum (IPC ) is a comprehensive curriculum with a clear process of learning and with specific learning goals for every subject, for personal learning and for international mindedness. The IPC is now the curriculum choice of international and national schools in over 1,800 schools in over 90 countries around the world. Come and learn more about it at DCIS this week!

4. Juilliard Curriculum Specialist (and Juilliard-trained violinist) Kathryn Andersen returns once again to oversee the progress of the Juilliard Nord Anglia Education Performing Arts Programme. Her stay from Wednesday, 12th October until Friday, 14th October will include in-class observations and staff workshops.

5. Our Primary School Deepavali Assembly/Non-Uniform Day (on Friday, 14th October) will introduce the theme of light for this ancient Indian festival which spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, and hope over despair. Don't forget that all children are invited to come to school dressed in Deepavali clothes on Friday!

6. Please remember that there are no ECAS scheduled on Friday, 14th October (ECAs restart 1st November) and school will be finishing at 3.00pm.

PASSPORTS: Primary passports will be with you shortly as we are still awaiting delivery! We know Year 4-6 are eagerly awaiting their arrival.
STUDENT LOGINS: All students should now have received their log in, apart from a few issues
already identified. Please check they work and let your teacher or Mrs Hyland know asap if they are not so we can sort any problems out for you.

Please don't hesitate to contact us with any queries you may have, and keep in contact! We love to see and hear what you have been up to with the Global Campus.

Lunch Service

Parents have now been informed of the move to a biometrics food ordering process for Year 3 and above. The introductory letter and biometrics permission form can be found on our Parent Essentials website in the 'School Lunches' webpage and below and parents are requested to complete the biometrics permission forms and return them by this Friday, 14th October.

Skoolbo Success

DCIS continues its  run on the Skoolbo Leaderboard and are still in the Top Three of the Leaderboard. Well done to all!

As this will possibly be our last notification before the half term break, we do hope you all have a good break over the two weeks and enjoy your travels together as a family. There will be some improvements to the DCIS campus during the October break which include a road widening and resurfacing project which we hope will assist with the school arrival and dismissal process.

Best regards,

Mr. Christopher Short
