Dear DCIS Parents,
I would like to congratulate the Primary FOBISIA Team on their achievements at the FOBISIA Games in Phuket last week. We are very proud of our athletes, who all did their very best. We saw some fantastic individual results, as well as a 1st place in U11 Boys’ football and a 3rd place in the U10 Boys’ football. I would like to thank our Primary PE teachers for their hard work in the preparations for the games and the parents who travelled to Phuket to show their support.
Year 5 put on a lovely art exhibition last Friday, showcasing the work from their latest IPC topic: “They see the world like this”. During the exhibition the parents were also invited to participate in some art workshops, led by students. A fantastic chance for the students to share their learning with their parents, fellow students and our leadership team.
On Friday we celebrated Diversity day. Paralympic athlete Andy Barrow joined us for the day and led a range of PE sessions, with our youngest children and all the way up to the Year 10 PE GCSE students. These sessions were much appreciated by all. We were also able to share our thoughts on what Diversity is. The foyer, between the School Reception and the Library, was transformed into a Diversity space, filled with colourful notes. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the ideas shared by students and staff. I am once again amazed by how caring and insightful our students are and how we truly are a diverse community.
Last Thursday we celebrated our Year 11 students in a moving assembly. I would like to thank Ms McKernan for arranging this and the DCA and Mrs Forrester for their support in the celebrations. The Year 11s have now started their GCSE examinations, they have a few intense weeks ahead of them and we wish them all the best of luck. As Cooper Hall is being used as examination hall we would like to remind everyone on campus to be considerate and extra quiet when walking past.
The DCA Summer Social was held at the British Club on Saturday. It was a wonderful evening that started with welcome drinks at the Treetops Terrace, where we could enjoy the sunset over Singapore. A great time was had by all and I would like to thank the DCA for arranging this opportunity for parents and staff to dress up and socialise. A special thank you to Grace Bau for decorating the Elizabeth Suite Ballroom.
The Term 3 ECAs start today and we look forward to seeing students involved in a variety of exciting activities after school. Please note that there are no ECAs this Friday, 17th May.
Tomorrow we will be holding a parent workshop on useful strategies to support students with additional needs at home. Our inclusion team will be covering topics including; literacy and maths. Please note that the session will take place in the DCIS Café and not in the Music Room, as first stated, at 8.45am. We hope you are able to make it along.
I would also like to remind you that the school will be closed on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st May. I hope that you will enjoy the long weekend.
I hope you have a great week.
Mr Christopher Short
Principal
