Dyslexia Awareness Week 2021 at Dover Court International School

Dyslexia Awareness Week 2021

The annual Dyslexia week at Dover Court was a week of awareness and reflection where we recognised our  different learning styles. We dressed in red to Go Red for Dyslexia, we watched a video where members of our community shared their experiences and we had some great discussions.

Dyslexia Awareness Week - A Reflection

By  Robin White, Primary Learning Support Teacher

I’ve learned a lot more about dyslexia since teaching at Dover Court. I understand how different skills are affected - including reading, spelling, maths, organisation, or a combination of these.

But when I think of the dyslexic students I know, I think of their courage, determination, perseverance and self-acceptance. They have not let dyslexia stop them from achieving their goals. In fact, they have shown extraordinary talent in their involvement in so many activities – with their parents’ support - including fund-raising, sport, art, media, performing arts and social service.

I think that living with dyslexia has encouraged them to be the best they can be, no matter what difficulties they face. And time and time again they have inspired me. This is why I celebrate Dyslexia Awareness Week.
