Our Learning Journey

We have had a great time celebrating book week in school. It was lovely to share our favourite stories with our friends on Monday when we dressed up as our favourite characters. We have also been very lucky to have a special visitor in school this week. Pauline Loh, a local Singaporean author came to read one of her stories to us called ‘Ye Ye, What are you doing?’ You can learn more about this author and see more of her books using this link.

The children have had a go at writing and retelling stories in class. Some children used their imagination to think of their own story and some children retold our class book in their own words. Many of the children were able to tell the class about their favourite character from a book and the children appear to be gaining confidence speaking in front of an audience.

This week, we started a new topic on The Great nature. Additionally, the Evolution of Chinese characters were introduced as well.  We discussed words related to our environment such as Sun, Moon, Stars and Clouds and how some of these words have evolved over time into modern characters today. The students learnt how to sing “Twinkle Little Stars” in Mandarin and completed a mini lyrics booklet related to this song. In Music this week, your children have continued to learn about Chinese traditional music and Ambush From Ten Sides, a Pi'pa piece that depicts the sounds of an ancient battle. Your children have created re-created the sounds of their own ancient battle using percussion instruments.
