  • Year 2 Weekly Roundup

In our English lessons, we have continued learning about non-chronological reports. The children have been focusing on learning a variety of question words and using these to plan their own questions. They have been asking their learning partners questions about the building which they have designed in the IPC lessons.

In Maths this week, the children have been learning to tell the time. We have enjoyed learning about o'clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to intervals. Most importantly the children have enjoyed problem solving using time. Whilst doing various weekend activities, why don’t you ask the children what the time is?

Project Work

In IPC this week we have been learning about the shophouses in Singapore. The children have used their imagination and creativity to design their own shop houses. They will be bringing their designs to life by creating their own 3D shophouse. We are also looking forward to seeing the lovely buildings the children have created at home on Friday 8th December.

The Y2 students have had a review of the topics that they have covered this term, such as counting numbers 1-100; the 7 days of the week and the 12 months; simple addition and subtraction; the common shapes including squares, rectangles, triangles, circles and stars. They were all involved in an end of term assessment focusing on speaking, listening, reading and writing development in Mandarin.

This week, the pupils continued creating their own story using the animation tools in Pivot.  They have been making the objects interact with the backgrounds they have chosen to make their animations more interesting.

Physical Education

The pupils have completed another sporting event for their house. The 10 minute Swim Challenge. It was a great effort by all the pupils. Well done everyone!

The Year 2 pupils have continued to focus on athletics events in their PE lessons. Hurdles and sprinting were the activities this week.

This week Year 2 students continued their study of Vivaldi's 'The Four Seasons', this time looking at 'Summer'. Through times of quiet listening, movement and discussion, students are learning to reflect on what they are hearing and how they are feeling about the music.

This week’s homework continues our work on telling the time. The children will need to match the analogue clock to the time by drawing a line to it. We have also challenged the children to draw the hands for a range of times. It may be helpful to have a clock nearby in case your child needs to look at the hands for a reminder

For their Project homework, we have challenged the children to build a model of a famous building from around the world. Please see the information sheet which was sent home a couple of weeks ago for more details. These models will be due into class on Friday 8th December
