Matthew Tuckley

Year 11 Progress Leader and Secondary School Science Teacher

Matthew graduated from the University of Brighton with a Bachelor of Science degree with first class honours. He continued his studies at the University of Portsmouth, gaining masters credits for research into the effect of metacognition and pupil self-regulation whilst achieving a secondary science PGCE.

Matthew has particular interests in the field of quantum physics and energy production, towards a more sustainable approach to human energy needs.  During his time teaching Matthew has enjoyed mentoring trainee teachers and coordinating enrichment opportunities for the science curriculum. He believes that all people should have the ability to think scientifically and experiment in their everyday lives!

Prior to teaching, Matthew worked as a Learning Support Assistant - where he developed a keen insight into supporting those with additional needs. He was briefly store manager for a leading fashion footwear retailer in the UK and mentored school leavers as part a residential program promoting social integration and the development of skills for the world of work.

As a qualified Duke of Edinburgh Award leader, he advocates a healthy, active and outdoors lifestyle. Having personally climbed Mount Kinabalu, skydived and participated in a 12 mile ‘mud run’! In his social time Matthew reads popular science books and has a variety of sporting interests, regularly weight training and playing football. Him and his wife Camila have spent many summers travelling together and are always looking to visit new places.
