First Win For Girls Senior Basketball

11 December 2015

Our senior girls have had a busy week this week with two basketball fixtures.

On Monday we played SSIS and Thursday we faced ABC. Both girls and boys teams played on the same night. It was fantastic to see so many staff and pupils had come to support the #BISLions.

Against SSIS, the girls did not disappoint and played some fast paced attacking basketball and deserved a half time lead of 4 points. During the second half SSIS switched team tactics and caught the Lions on the back foot.

They began to push hard forcing errors and turnovers. With the game in the balance until the last few seconds, SSIS held on and snatched a late victory 20-19. The team lost concentration the final minutes of the game and were punished for it. A valuable lesson was learned ahead of Januarys SISAC city champs.

Coaches’ player of the match was Thanh Le.

Thursday brought ABC to BIS. The girls played first and how well they started! ABC could not live with the intensity and pace our girls played with, and the Lions raced into an early lead that they would not relinquish.

When the final whistle was blown the score was 48-0 to BIS. It was a convincing victory, but more importantly the team are beginning to realise the quality they possess. During the game, two year Year 10 pupils made their first appearance for the senior team, Joanne Cheah and Wen Yun The. For a period in the second half, the entire team on court was made up of Year 10 players, our ability to do this showed the depth of girls’ basketball here at BIS.

Coaches’ player of the match goes to Nhi Trinh who put in a phenomenal captains performance.
