BASKETBALL
On Wednesday this week our U11 boys team travelled to ISHCMC to take part in the SISAC city championships. They were drawn into group A along with ISHCMC and AIS.
With a mostly Year 5 team the TX one was definitely the shortest and youngest team at the tournament, and this shown in the first game, when the boys struggled to get to grips with the higher baskets and larger court and were beaten heavily by ISHCMC.
Game 1: TX 4-32 ISHCMC
Next up were AIS. This was a much closer game, with better shooting, the TX team would have won comfortably as they created many more chances to score than their opponents. The game was neck and neck for the entire 32 minutes and ended 16-16. This meant that a 2 minute period of sudden death overtime was to be played, where the first team to score a basket would win. Unfortunately for TX our shooting let us down again and AIS scored that basket after 90 secs of the overtime.
Game 2: TX 16-16 AIS (AIS won in sudden death overtime)
This meant that TX finished 3rd of their group and would go on to play in the 5th/6th place playoff against ABC School. In this game TX finally found their shooting skills. In an amazing match which TX first led by 10 then trailed by 10 the game went all the way to the wire. A special mention to Khoa Tran, who as the only Year 6 led by example scoring 22 points. Agonizingly when they were leading with 1 minute to go ABC broke and scored the winning basket, to take the game amazingly by 1 point. It was definitely the match of the tournament, both teams competed well and it was very exciting to watch.
Game 3: TX 29-30 ABC
This tournament completed the basketball season. Congratulations to all 26 students who have played a part this season.
After Christmas the football and athletics fixtures begin.
