It was wonderful to see over 100 parents attending our MPF/MP1 and MP2/MP3 Reading workshops this week.
Delivering the workshops were our English Subject Leaders Hannah Lewis and Jonathan Smith and they were joined by Lousie Swift from our Early Years department.
Key messages such as the importance of phonics and the sounds letters make, allowing your child to read without stopping to correct mispronounced words and most importantly the value and importance of reading with your child were shared with the parents that attended.
On Tuesday parents in MPF and MP1 got to see how teachers deliver their lessons with 3 groups of children and teachers joining the session. On Thursday Mr Jonathan, spoke about the wide variety of reading material available to our students, both fiction and non fiction. From novels to newspapers, comics to graphic novels, all are a valuable source of reading material. Reading a favourite book over and over? Not a problem! As Mr Jonathan said, we watch our favourite movies more than once, why not do the same with books.

Useful Reading Resources for all Parents
The sessions tie in nicely wth Book Week which takes place next week from Monday to Friday. The children will be joined by authors 'The Two Steves' and all children will get a chance to work with them. In the library, we will have a book fair where books will be available to purchase, not just for children but adults too. Each of the classes will be visiting the library during their normal library slots to view the books on offer but please note, parents will have to come to pay for the books. The library will be open before and after school each day next week.
In the meantime, enjoy reading with your children at home!
