noun
1.
a senior student tasked with leadership responsibilities to help guide and manage the day to day running of the school and it’s younger students.
To the start the day off, we launched into a quick team building activity that entailed building the tallest yet most stable tower from 5 newspapers and straws in 10 minutes. Unfortunately, after several minutes of frantic taping and folding, only some towers made it to the end. Despite this relatively low passing rate, it’s safe to say we all learned a valuable lesson in the importance of planning ahead.
Later, our mutual trust was put to the test as we were blindfolded (and defenceless) and led through an obstacle course which incited much laughter - amongst the blind folders at least. Soon enough it was clear that communication and empathy were the keys to a good team.
Arranged in ever-changing groups of 3 to a complete 25, we learnt a lot about collaboration, compromise and listening. We especially found it challenging to categorise ourselves into affiliative, commanding, coaching or democratic leaders as we had never given it much thought.
Overall, we’ve definitely benefitted from the training: in terms of both ameliorating our leadership skills and enjoying our weekend. We feel closer as a Prefect team and glad that we’ve established our faith in our “Higher Power”.
