Tet Shoe Box Appeal 2018 – Season of Giving

Tết is the most important celebration in Vietnamese culture, honouring the arrival of spring. The celebration brings with it delicious food like bánh chưng, bánh dày, dưa hấu and traditional customs such as ancestor worship, wishing New Year's greetings and giving lucky money. Tết symbolises the time of the year where people can forget about the troubles of the past year and look towards the future.

Tết symbolises the time of the year where people can forget about the troubles of the past year and look towards the future.

This time is as special for children of our community partners as it is for everyone else in Vietnam. Tết is a time of happiness but can also bring family and financial pressures.  One way that we can support our partners and their families is by running the annual Tết collection.

This year, we are doing the collection slightly differently to how we have before. The concept is that all of the children in our community partners will receive a Tet gift from us in the form of a shoe box, similar to the Christmas Shoe Box Appeals in the UK. In the shoe box there will be new clothes, stationary, toys, books, something edible. These can be created by everyone in the BIS HCMC Community - students, staff and parents across all campuses.

This will be a lovely way to share our Tet celebrations with our community partners and we hope everyone will get involved in this whole school initiative!

On each campus there will be a Tet tree as the donation point for all the boxes. See below for more information for your campus.
