Learning Skills Challenge: Week 13

Welcome back to WEEK 13 of the BIS Learning Skills Challenge!

Another exciting and fulfilling week down...where does all the time go! With only a week to go before the winter break it is always a good time to look back over the school term to REFLECT on the experiences gained and to look forward to see how those experiences can shape the opportunities to come. Have you taken all the opportunities that have been offered to you through the many programmes and events that take place here at BIS? Have you attempted to do the extra things that are a little bit challenging and new, that maybe puts you outside of your comfort zone? Have you not tried something because you thought it was difficult and that you potentially didn’t want to fail? It is sometimes easy to not only do the things that are necessary or the things that we are comfortable at doing because we find them easy. This is in part why I have really enjoyed creating the puzzles and challenges that not only test our Learning Skills such as Critical Thinking, but also the attributes of our Aide Memoire in building up our perseverance and love for enquiry.

BIS HCMC Aide Memoir is at the heart of all we do.

I once read that with trivia questions, you either remember the fact or you do not, whereas a  good learning skills puzzle coaxes a little thought; it teases you into constructs or concepts of your own, it requires you to apply your knowledge and understanding to solve the problem. Often these are based around trial and error where the feedback you receive from the error improves your understanding and gives you a better idea of how to make changes to improve. It is through that process that great innovation occurs, or even better the greatest feeling of success and achievement. I hope that the puzzles have caused a little struggle but through patience, perseverance, collaboration, critical thinking and reflection they have resulted in a feeling of satisfaction and achievement at the end. As this will be the last puzzle before the winter break and to help me reflect on the Learning Skills challenges for Term Two I would really appreciate any feedback via the Googleform below when also submitting your weekly answer.

To open the PDF below can you solve this problem….what 6 letters come next...QWER _ _ _ _ _ _

How it works

Challenges will be running throughout the year and are open to the whole BIS community!  The challenges will often be linked to and published through the weekly newsletters, however, more often than not these links will just be the starting place...so read the weekly news and then keep your eyes open for clues!

Each individual challenge will require you to open password protected PDFs, with the code hidden within the BIS newsletters; so make sure you are up to date with the BIS news. Once open, the PDF will give you a challenge to solve that will take you on a journey to find the GoogleForm link unique to that challenge, this link will enable you to enter the prize draw for that challenge! There will also be a special prize waiting for the person that submits their entry first.

If you are interested in being entered for the prize draw please fill in your details along with the codes on the GoogleForm (https://goo.gl/forms/qvPyoCnlAdTGtcMV2). This half term we are opening it up to those that wish to play from home, so no need to actually open the safe with the following code. However, if you still wish to gain the big prizes you must still be first to the safe.

Have you worked out the password yet to open the PDF? If not you may need to read again and see if you have missed any details… Good Luck!
