How is the HACK the Tube challenge going? For the past few weeks I have been thinking, how can I get involved with hacking the tube? If this is your first time reading this blog you may wish to first find out a little more about the MIT “Hacking the Tube” challenge HERE.
The challenge of using a recycled cardboard tube is something close to my heart as sustainability and looking after our planet is an important part of being a designer. By being able to reuse, reduce and recycle our waste we will be able to protect our planet at every stage of the product cycle from mining the raw materials, through transportation, manufacturing, use and disposal. Therefore, I have been thinking how I could use my recycled tube in a way that it will be useful and replace the materials that I would have normally used instead. This way I am not only reusing the tubes but I am also saving the otherwise used “new” material. So without spoiling your future challenges, I am in the process of making a LEARNING SKILLS puzzle that will require you to look through the tubes in order to see the numbers for the safe!
In the meantime why not check out the competition and see what other Nord Anglia students have been submitting for their “Hack the Tube” entries. If you log in to the Global Campus you can see them here.
Now the challenge for this week. As I am really keen on promoting the Learning Skills, the BIS Aide Memoire and STEAM, I have written them below. However, you will notice that each one has a letter missing...if you can identify which letter is missing in each word and then put them together you will find that it reads a very BIS saying….can you work it out? That saying is then the passcode (all lowercase) to the below PDFs.

How it works
Challenges will be running throughout the year and are open to the whole BIS community! The challenges will often be linked to and published through the weekly newsletters, however, more often than not these links will just be the starting place...so read the weekly news and then keep your eyes open for clues!
Each individual challenge will require you to open password protected PDFs, with the code hidden within the BIS newsletters; so make sure you are up to date with the BIS news. Once open, the PDF will give you a challenge to solve that will take you on a journey to find the GoogleForm link unique to that challenge, this link will enable you to enter the prize draw for that challenge! There will also be a special prize waiting for the person that submits their entry first.
If you are interested in being entered for the prize draw please fill in your details along with the codes on the GoogleForm (https://goo.gl/forms/4ZINhA6MQaYt7M863). This half term we are opening it up to those that wish to play from home, so no need to actually open the safe with the following code. However, if you still wish to gain the big prizes you must still be first to the safe.
Have you worked out the password yet to open the PDF? If not you may need to read again and see if you have missed any details… Good Luck!
