We love a good story and we love an opportunity to be creative with costumes, so F3 decided to launch our new Talk 4 Writing story of ‘Each Peach Pear Plum’ with a dressing up day. In the build up to the day we read lots of traditional tales such as Jack and the Beanstalk, the Frog Prince, the Gingerbread Man… and talked about which character we would like to be.

F3 teachers were so impressed with children arriving, dressed as an array of characters from stories as diverse as Peter Pan, Snow White, Rapunzel, The White Rabbit and The Ugly Duckling, to name a few. Many thanks to parents for their creative input. The event has even provoked a dressing up creation table in some classes as children started making their own props and costumes, including spikes for the Beast or buttons for the Gingerbread Man. No home-made costume in F3 would be complete without glitter and the children wondered why the Wicked Witches and Rapunzel were covered in glitter after their day of costume making and wearing.

The dress up day commenced with a grand parade on a special Storyland catwalk in the gym. Class by class paraded down the catwalk, showing off their costumes, to much applause from their fellow Fairyland characters. Take a look at some of our catwalk character photos from the parade.

Now that we know lots of the characters from traditional tales and have lots of the language of stories, we are looking forward to activities in classes and the ELC, to further explore stories, the problems that characters have to overcome, and how they resolved their dilemmas.

Stay Tuned!
