The BIS HCMC Library Leaders are excited to present to you our latest project in the library. This project was originally started by Mr Fortune, with the idea of allowing students to express themselves through creative writings, and continued by Year 13 student Arjun Mitra through the Tell Tales Club. Together, the Library Leaders and Tell Tales Club, with the help of Ms Curley, Mr Gamwell, and Ms Breard, have compiled a series of stories written by our talented and creative students here at BIS HCMC. We are excited to present to you our collection of folk tales written from different cultures all over the world. The collection can be found below under 'Downloads' and we hope that you enjoy reading it as much as we have enjoyed creating it for you!
The students who participated in Arjun’s Tell Tales Club come from different backgrounds and this was the inspiration for writing stories about their cultures and traditions. With the help of Arjun, they were able to create fascinating tales from all around the world, ranging from Korea to Germany, and to many other places. The aim of this project was to share the cultural aspects captured in these beautiful stories to students from all around the world who may not have the opportunity to learn about these cultures.
Our stories have been compiled into a book and there will be printed copies to distribute between the BIS HCMC campuses. We would also like to give copies to our community partners who support children with education. During the Christmas BISzaar, we managed to sell some of the tales as an audiobook and this money will be donated to the Christina Noble Children’s Foundation to sponsor local students’ tuition fees for primary school education. Through this, we would like to contribute in accomplishing Goal 4 from the Global Goals, which is Quality Education for children in Vietnam. Moreover, this folk tales collection will be shared with NAE schools through the Global Library along with specific activities that we have designed for students to participate in once they have read our stories!
For Arjun, running the Tell Tales Club was a great experience. As the leader of the club, he was responsible for assigning roles to each student to write different stories. The club also gave him the opportunity to write his own stories, which is something he has always wanted to do. He is very proud of the stories that the club was able to produce and we look forward to hearing your thoughts about it!
