After the children from BVIS arrived and we had all been introduced, the workshop started with the children watching a clip from a television programme called ‘The Magic School Bus’. This show is all about a school bus with magic powers that can travel through time and space – literally anywhere! The children were told that this bus could take them forwards or backwards in time; to distant galaxies or back to the land of the dinosaurs! Excitement started to build and there was a real buzz in the room as the children thought up imaginative ideas of where the bus could take them.
Suddenly there was an announcement – the magic school bus had appeared on the playground! The children couldn’t wait to get on to the bus and see where it would take them! Working in year group teams from across BIS and BVIS, the children stepped on to the bus and found many thrilling options of where the bus could take them that day. Ancient Egypt, Mars, Fantasy Land – where would they go? They came to a decision as a team and picked up a key which would enable them to travel to their destination of choice.
Next, the children learnt that they would be using green screen technology to make a video of themselves arriving and exploring their chosen land. They needed to write a script, which included a description of the place, to read while they were acting. At this point, it was wonderful to see the children from BIS and BVIS working so well together. Creative ideas were flowing and there was a real sense of collaboration.
In the afternoon, filming commenced! The teams did a fantastic job of creating their short film which showed them exploring a place in the past or in the future. With only a short time, we were of course being very ambitious but the children really stepped up to the challenge.
All too soon, after some celebratory chocolate cake, it was time to wave goodbye to our new friends from BVIS. We are now working on putting together a video to showcase the children’s work during the workshop – we hope we can share it with you soon!
Congratulations and well done for taking part: Vivi, Bao Tram, Maya, Jayden, Katie, Akilan, Tupo, Jolie, Alvin, Rishi, Linh Danh, Megan and of course all of the winners from BVIS.
